التراث الضائع

What started off as peaceful protests has now resulted in over 400,000 lives being lost. The Syrians have lost so much; their freedom, their families, their culture, and their homes. The artwork 'التراث الضائع' translated to 'the lost culture' in English sheds light on the Syrians’ hardships and losses. While we lose so much in war, loved ones, infrastructure, and landmarks, what people usually don’t remember is we lose our culture too. The Tarboosh is a traditional hat and a symbol of Syrian culture. I used white plaster to show the way in which the culture has been stripped to the core. I used the chains to hang the installation to show the viscous nature of war and used scraps of traditional Syrian fabric to show the bits of culture that remain.
